Wool Research and NZWICTrust Education Portfolio:

The New Zealand Wool Industry Charitable Trust and Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand have jointly recently announced new scholarships for people studying towards careers in the wool industry.

The purpose is to promote the wool industry as a rewarding and interesting career option and to support the development of high calibre, researchers and scientists. The New Zealand wool industry is at the cutting edge of wool textile research, and offering these scholarships is intended to assist the industry to remain a global leader in the future.

Undergraduate Degree

The Undergraduate scholarship will be offered to students who are New Zealand citizens and wish to study at an overseas university offering an approved textile science degree programme.

An Undergraduate scholarship for study at an overseas university offering an approved textile science bachelor degree programme. Currently approved universities are in the UK, Belgium, India, China and USA. The scholarship provides for travel, tuition and includes an accommodation allowance to a value of approximately NZ$40,000.00 per annum for up to three years.

This scholarship is only available every third year. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens and applications close on 16 December 2005.

Postgraduate Degree & Post Doctoral Fellowship

A Post Doctoral Fellowship and a PhD scholarship providing for research on innovative projects on topics related to wool to be taken up at Canesis Network (the NZ textile research organisation), in conjunction with a New Zealand University, for a period of one to three years. Applications are invited for study and research in topics related to wool, which includes:

Postgraduate Scholarships

PhD students awarded the scholarship will receive a stipend of NZ$25,000 per annum for up to three years, with an additional payment of NZ$4,000 per annum for research costs.

Post Doctoral Fellowships

Post Doctoral Fellowship will receive a stipend of between NZ$50,000 and NZ$65,000 with an additional payment for research costs.
